Whether your session is in Dallas or Denton, urban or county, there is options for it all!
Hey there senior guys! It’s senior portrait time! As you prepare for your high school senior portraits, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is what to wear. Your photos will capture a milestone moment and you’ll want to look your best. But most importantly you’ll want to represent YOU and your style, think of yourself now, just elevated for your senior portraits!
Here’s a guide to help you choose the perfect outfits, from formal to casual to athletic:
FORMAL WEAR
Formal Wear: Classic with a Modern Twist
When it comes to formal wear, think classic and sophisticated.
- Suits and Blazers
- Timeless Choice: A well-fitted suit in navy, charcoal, or black is always a winner. These colors are versatile and photograph well.
- Modern Twist: Consider a slim-fit suit or blazer to give a contemporary look. Pair it with a crisp white shirt or a subtle patterned shirt for a bit of personality.
- Accessories: Don’t forget a stylish tie or bow tie. Skinny ties are trendy right now and can add a sleek finish to your outfit. Athlete? Bring some of your equipment, like a ball and glove, or your football, or any other item that is important to you.
Trust me when I say you will look and feel like a million bucks… wear the suit!
2. Dress Shirts and Trousers
- The Basics: A solid-color dress shirt in white, light blue, or pastel shades paired with dress trousers is a safe bet.
- Add Personality: Try a shirt with a slight texture or a subtle pattern. Pair it with chinos or dress pants that complement the shirt.
Dallas? Denton? A good suit will look good anywhere!
Casual Wear
Casual Wear: Relaxed and Trendy
For a more laid- back vibe, casual outfits can show off your personality and style. Remember, this is all about being YOU! Find what matches your style best and elevate it!
1. Smart- Casual
- Top Choices: Polo shirts, button-down shirts, or Henley shirts are great options. Stick with neutral colors or muted tones like olive, burgundy, and navy.
- Bottom Choices: Dark-wash jeans or chinos are perfect for a smart-casual look. Avoid overly distressed jeans to keep the focus on your face.
2. Layered Looks
- Layer Up: Layering adds depth to your photos. Consider a denim or leather or letterman jacket over a tee or a flannel shirt over a solid color t-shirt.
- Sweaters and Cardigans: Lightweight sweaters and cardigans are great for adding a touch of sophistication without being too formal.
3. Footwear
- Shoes Matter: Casual shoes like loafers, desert boots, or clean sneakers can complete your look. Make sure they’re clean and in good condition. Shoes can really help tell your story!
Athletic Wear/Uniform
Athletic Wear: Sporty and Stylish
If you’re an athlete or just love the sporty look, athletic wear can be a great choice for your senior photos!
- Team Jerseys and Gear
- Represent: Wear your team’s jersey or gear for a personal touch. It’s a great way to tell your athletic story and even show off your achievements.
- Coordinate: Pair the jersey with clean, well-fitted athletic pants or shorts. Avoid overly baggy items for a more polished look. Jeans even good for a casual look, at some cowboy boots if you want a county look!
2. Athleisure
- Trendy Choice: Athleisure is all about comfort and style. Think fitted joggers, track pants, or performance shorts paired with a stylish athletic top or hoodie.
- Layering: A zip-up jacket or a stylish windbreaker can add a cool edge to your athletic outfit.
3. Footwear
- Sneakers: Clean, stylish sneakers are a must. Go for classic styles in neutral colors that complement your outfit, or go for a wilder edgy side and pick something that stands out!
FINAL TIPS!!
Final Tips:
- Fit is Key
No matter what you choose to wear, the fit is crucial. Clothes that are too tight or too loose can be unflattering. Make sure everything fits well, that you can sit, stand, and squat comfortable, you never know what pose you will be put in!
2. Keep it Simple
Avoid loud patterns, logos, or large sayings on the front of tee shirts. These can be distracting and the focus should be on your face.
3. Be YOU!! I can’t stress this enough! Be you, only elevated!
Choose outfits that reflect YOUR personality and style. Your senior portraits are about capturing who you are at this moment. Pick out what you want to wear, but also remember to wear something mom wants you to wear… we need to make mom happy too!
4. Grooming
Don’t forget about grooming. A fresh haircut and a clean shave (or well-groomed facial hair) can make a big difference. Don’t get your haircut the day of your session, do it a week before hand so it has time to look less new and more you. Unless you are wanting the high and tight look! With today’s megapixel cameras any facial hair on your face will show. So if you don’t want to see it in the photos be sure to shave!
5. Don't Forget the Shoes!
Shoes complete the outfit! Shoes can also change the look of the outfit just by changing the shoes! Yes, a suit looks great with dress shoes, but change to cowboy boots or a cool pair of sneakers and the whole outfit vibe changes! Same goes for a formal dress! I have seen some great dresses with both heels and high tops! Barefoot is also a look! It will create a calmness to the image and is great for water sessions!
By following these tips and staying true to your style, you'll ensure your high school senior portraits are something you’ll look back on with pride. Get ready to showcase your unique style and make this photo session one of the highlights of your senior year. Let's create some unforgettable memories and capture your best look yet!
