Lake Dallas High School Class Of 2020 Varsity Baseball Player/Mom Group Photo
February in Texas is when all of the excitement begins for high school baseball. Tryouts are over, teams have been formed, booster club meetings held and tournament play is underway. During this time I had the opportunity to meet with the the beautiful moms of the Lake Dallas Varsity Baseball Class of 2020 for their individual and group photos with their players.
There's a special excitement for these ladies, a special bond they all share, for this is their last year as a high school baseball mom; and for some of them, it's their last season of being a baseball mom altogether.
The moms arrived to my studio in matching Lake Dallas shirts and smiles on their faces. The excitement was very clear and for some there was a hint of a tear hiding behind that gorgeous smile. It's exciting to go through all the fun stuff to commemorate your senior, but that little voice inside your head reminds you that this is the first of many lasts. Being with these moms only bought back the flood of emotions I had just four short years ago. I know this feeling all too well, my high school Varsity player graduated in 2016, and it was one of the most emotional season I had ever been through.
Aside from the excitement in their voices and chatter they all had about the upcoming season there was a true love for their boys. This opportunity to have their photo taken with their player, just mom and son together, is a memory to last a lifetime. The son in his jersey and mom in her team shirt and smiles on their faces. As I look through the camera I can feel the pride that momma has and as much as they deny it, these boys enjoyed having a photo taken with their momma, for she is his biggest cheerleader, she's been there every step of the way and the mother son bond like this is unbreakable. My job was to capture this moment, this bond, this happiness, the pride... all wrapped up in one photo.
After completion of the individual mother/son photos we headed over to the field for the group shot. The field itself is new this year! Beautifully redone in turf, with a big beautiful new logo in center field, brand spanking new for the new season!
It was easy peasy getting these mommas to pose with their boys. They all did a fabulous job and looked gorgeous. The boys on the other hand were teenage boys, having a little fun and making this event just that more memorable.
Little did we know that the season wouldn't even get a chance to get started. As I type this our country is consumed with a virus that is keeping us all in our homes. Players can't gather to practice let alone play the games they had worked so hard for. The way it looks seniors across the country will not get the opportunity to play their last high school season. Unimaginable to have your high school career come to end without warning. It's very sad. My heart hurts for these players and for these moms. I can only hope that something amazing happens and the players get some of their season back, but I think this is wishful thinking.
To all the spring sports moms out there... I hear you, I see you, I am sad and mad along with you. There's still memories to make, go out there and make them! Document this time in their lives!
To the Class of 2020 spring sport players out there... Nobody will take away the memories you created with your team leading up to this abrupt end of your season. Nobody will take away the hard work you put in or the achievements you have made. Your friends and family will always be there. Amazing things are still ahead for you. You will get out there and do great things. Class of 2020 can't be stopped and I know you will prove it.
